Filed under It’s About Time: I’m finally working on my very own portfolio website to showcase the full range of what I love to do!
From writing articles and tutorials (and blog posts, natch) to photography to designing color palettes for everything from websites to my own yarns and lingerie sewing kits, it will all be represented here— and there are links for many items, so you can see them in their proper context. Perhaps most importantly, the connections between my diverse projects will also be apparent, like how a particular palette inspired a hand-dyed yarn and a mosaic-like background image (links will take you to the items below).
I just started this site yesterday, so it will take a while to get it filled out, but there’s already plenty to look at now, and I’m adding more momentarily. Hope to see you there!
It’s official: Pantone*, the standard-bearer for all things color-related, has announced its 2017 Color of the Year!

Just published in Colette Patterns‘ sewing magazine Seamwork: My latest article on using color palettes in real life! It’s called Color in Your Closet: Discover (and Use) the Palette Within.
- How to coax a palette out of your existing wardrobe;
- Identifying your primary colors;
- Ideas for using your palette to create new outfits;
- Tips for using accent colors in unexpected ways;
- Using your palette when you shop!
Once you’ve created your palette based on the clothes already in your closet, carry it with you when you shop! (Click the photo to go straight to my article. Photo is my own, also used in the published article.)

When I approached the Craft Industry Alliance recently with an article idea about using color effectively in merchandising, they asked if I would instead be willing to write about color forecasting, a subject they said many of their members were asking to have addressed. So for the Alliance’s newly-minted Journal (for members in a wide variety of craft-based businesses), I wrote this article, which was published last week:
Forecast: Color Ahead! Identifying & Creating Color Trends for Craft
Even though the requested 1000 words is less than my typical blog posts, writing on this subject was no small task. I decided to focus on what I believe myself about color forecasting for our individual business futures: We need to trust our instincts.
Light & bright? Soft & smoky? Deep jewels? Or just plain neutral? What (or who) determines the popular hues of the future? My answer may surprise you. (All palettes are from the Colormusing collection.)

Filed under Good News & Bad News: The good news is that Shutterstock, one of the largest stock photography companies, has accepted my work to sell on their site! Yes, I’m already selling some of my images on my own site (in the Digital Graphic Files collection), so why sell on Shutterstock too? Well, primarily because they do the work of formatting my images in a range of sizes, making it easy to find just what you need, and also because they reach a huge world-wide marketplace. Good news, indeed.

The first of my sewing-related blogs was Changing Your Clothes, covering anything having to do with making the most of clothes you already have: alterations, dyeing, repairs, wardrobe planning (via color palettes, natch), refashioning. Next in line: My Bratelier, which is focused only on sewing lingerie, including bras. So when I wanted to write posts for sew-along projects started in one of my workshops, I didn’t have an existing blog that was the right fit. What’s a blogger to do?
Silly question. Start a new blog, of course! Help me welcome SewColormusing into the Colormusing family!
It’s a bouncing baby blog! SewColormusing will include sew-along series, special technique tutorials, and general sewing fun!

Just in from the color gurus at Pantone: For 2016, there’s not one, but two Colors of the Year! I present to you… Rose Quartz and Serenity!
Pantone’s 2016 Colors of the Year! Here, I’ve included the same CMYK and hex code information that comes with every Colormusing palette. (Click the colors to see what Pantone has to say about their COTY choices.)
